Carl Sandburg 4-mile Run

Millions of Americans across the country will go to a race this weekend. Running and racing go together like a foot and a shoe.

Running is a sport anyone may participate in even those who were not able to participate on high school or college teams. The only thing, which is necessary, is a pair of shoes and a willingness to try. It does not matter how well you do, no one even has to know. The only thing, which is important, is that you do it.

In races you are only in competition with yourself and those around you. There is a great camaraderie among these groups of runners. Some only compete with themselves and this too is an important thing about running. It is impossible to describe the feeling of accomplishment of finishing better than a certain time you may have set for yourself. Most runners keep these times and distances on paper or in their head. These best times are called PR’s. PR stands for Personal Record and again this describes what running is all about, a sense of accomplishment and being the best you can be.

Any given weekend there are countless races across the country with thousands of runners each. Hopefully getting those PRs.
